About Chartreuse

Chartreuse's mission is to use the highest
quality and freshest floral products, create distinctive designs, assemble a beautiful selection of home accessories and gifts, and
bring them to the customer at a reasonable price. Chartreuse
extends it mission of quality, unique design and customer service to
its event business as well. Chartreuse invites customers to
join the Chartreuse community and makes every attempt to provide
personalized service.
At the heart of Chartreuse are partners Mark Mainville and Tony Verdi.
Mark is
an experienced designer and event planner with over ten years in the business.
Tony, a psychologist, is sensitive to
client needs and knows how to deliver customer service. Both have an eye for beautiful things, and together they have fashioned a staff of professional and talented individuals.
Mark began his career as an optician and after
20 years found that his talents and calling was in working with
flowers. In his upscale optical business in Washington and Philadelphia
he would decorate the shop with stunning floral arrangements.
During this time, he was able to develop and nurture his love for
flowers. His optical customers would praise him for his work
and encouraged him to pursue his talent. He soon found
himself quitting the optical business and moving to a warehouse
space in Manayunk where his focus was on events. With over 10
years in the event business, Mark developed many contacts and
clients who encouraged him to open a retail space where his flowers
and floral accessories could be displayed and made available to the
public.
In June 2000, Chartreuse was conceived and
opened at 12th and Spruce Streets in Center City Philadelphia.
The location was an ideal one having been a flower shop for the
prior 15 years.
Mark and Tony wanted the space to stand out in
the neighborhood, and were focused on developing a concept that
would be different. They came up with the name Chartreuse and
decided to paint the walls and shelves the namesake color. The
result is an outstanding setting to showcase fine flowers and
accessories. Everything looks good in the chartreuse
setting. It's both shocking and neutral.
In service to the community, Chartreuse keeps
the shop and sidewalk illuminated so that the public can view the
artfully designed windows and so that the corner remains bright and
attractive.
